All over the world, there are people who make mistakes. Their actions are then investigated by the judicial system and their sentence may cause them to lose their freedom. However, these people also need opportunities, attention, education, job training, healthcare, and self-esteem to be able to reenter society.

Our purpose is to:

1. Share our time, motivation, mental and emotional support with the women through art, theater activities and sports.
2. Offer educational opportunities like: literacy training, English classes, women’s rights education, and crafts.
3. Organize medical and dental campaigns to better the women’s health and supply them with vitamins, pills for parasites, and medication as prescribed by a doctor.
4. Show I.C.A. students how the penal system works in Guatemala and the reality of poverty in a women’s prison in Xela.

Achievements:

1. Women from all over the world have done volunteer work with this project.
2. Hot showers have been installed in the prison.
3. Cooking utensils and a stove for the kitchen have been purchased.
4. Volunteers have taught various crafts to the women so they can sell them to earn money when they leave the prison.
5. ICAmigos volunteers have painted the inside of the prison.
6. Volunteers have helped repair sewing machines for the women.
7. A private area for conjugal visits has been set up.
8. Volunteers have purchased blankets for women who arrive unexpectedly.
