I.C.A. is the first Spanish school in Quetzaltenango to be authorized by the Ministry of Education of Guatemala (MINEDUC) and the Institute of Tourism (INGUAT). I.C.A. was founded as the first collectively run school in 1976. Since that time we have and continue to offer the prestige of excellence in teaching the Spanish language.

Teachers at I.C.A. use their own exclusive grammar guide, researched and written by our very own teachers. Our instructors have years of experience and an excellent knowledge of Spanish grammar.

I.C.A. is one of the few Spanish schools in Xela that has permanent teachers who receive full working benefits as stipulated by law and do not work part-time in other schools. All of our teachers and directors have received  diplomas to teach Spanish as a second language.

At I.C.A. we guarantee that there will only be one student placed in each Guatemalan family, so that you can take full advantage of your opportunity to immerse yourself in Spanish, feel the warmth of a family, and have an unforgettable cultural exchange.  In addition, our families receive courses in preparing vegetarian meals and dealing with allergies. Both families and teachers are open to receiving students of different backgrounds, cultures, religions, political beliefs and sexual orientations.

I.C.A. is the pioneer Spanish school in offering extracurricular cultural activities and social projection in addition to Spanish language instruction. We have lots of experience in discerning the interests of foreigners and continue to develop new and interesting activities. We offer six projects in which you can volunteer with and we can also put you in contact with other local organizations.

I.C.A. is located in the oldest cultural center of Central America, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. It is an authentic Guatemalan city: full of life with both modern conveniences and diversions.

The I.C.A. Spanish school building was specifically constructed to be a Spanish school. We provide individual classrooms for each student-teacher pair in a well lit, well ventilated and comfortable setting. This means that there is less noise and you are not in a large room with other students and distractions.

I.C.A. offers internet service in the school at no cost, for the exclusive use of our students and teachers, with unlimited time and modern equipment. Wi-Fi is also available.

Since 1991, the ICAmigos NGO has coordinated and administered social projects that we believe are a vital part of our community. We were the first school to participate in social projection and for that reason, 20% of your tuition goes towards these projects. Each week, we visit one of our projects so that our students and volunteers can see our achievements.

I.C.A. attracts a wide range of students, both groups and individuals, including: children, families, Spanish teachers, university professors and students, human rights organizations, religious workers and professionals. Our alumni range from as young as 3 to over 65 years of age, so you will fit right in.
